What is intermitted fasting?
Intermittent fasting is a dietary approach that involves interspacing planned periods of fasting with regular eating.
There are a few types of intermitted fasting, such as the 5:2 diet – the basis of the diet is for five days of the week you can eat what you like (in reason) and then for two days of the week you need to fast.
The other fasting diet is the 16:8, whereby you eat within an eight-hour time frame and abstain from eating for the rest of that time.
The benefits of intermitted fasting for men
By changing the times you eat, it may allow your body time to regulate your blood sugar, insulin, and cholesterol levels.
Improves blood pressure
Reduces insulin resistance and chances of developing Type 2 diabetes
Reduces your risk of coronary heart disease
Reducing belly fat
Help you live longer
When you don’t eat for a while, several things happen in your body – your insulin levels drop and this is why intermitted fasting could help you fight off developing Type 2 diabetes. Lower insulin levels also help your body break down visceral (such as tummy fat).
In fact, fasting actually increases your metabolic rate and this helps you burn even more calories.
Does intermittent fasting affect testosterone?
While testosterone is found in both men and women, males have much higher levels.
This sex hormone is responsible for libido (sex drive), bone strength, facial hair, bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength, and the production of sperm.
It’s believed that intermitted fasting increases Luteinizing Hormone (LH) levels in your body and this hormone stimulated the production of testosterone.
However, fasting isn’t for everyone. And there are so many other alternatives to help you lose body mass, keep up your sugar levels and boost your metabolism.
